J. A. Schmidt & Soehne, Solingen | RZM M7/95

The J. A. Schmidt & Sohne, Stahlwarenfabrik, company began from the lineal successor company "Johann Abraham Schmidt & Co.", which was founded in 1829. The most common trademark, a cathedral (or three steeples), was registered in 1895. In 1900, the owner was listed as Gustav Schmidt III and by 1914-30 Ernst Schmidt. The 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk advertisement above, lists Schmidt products as: pocket knives, straight razors, scissors and all sorts of knives and forks. In 1935, the company was located on Wernerstrasse 9 in Solingen. During the Third Reich, Werner and Erich Schmidt were listed as the owners. Schmidt manufactured early era SA daggers and after 1939, RZM M7/95 marked SA/NSKK daggers. In 1979, the company expanded its operations next door to Wernerstrasse 11-13. Schmidt continues to manufacture professional knives for cooks and butchers, steels, scissors, shears, clippers and manicure items.
