Pfeilringwerk, Solingen

The Müller & Schmidt, Pfeilringwerk, company began in 1896. The company's beginnings trace back to Carl Müller who made: cigar cutters, manicure items and pocket knives. Müller knew he could not keep up with demand on his own, so he brought on Paul Adolph Schmidt as the financier and marketer. On April 21, 1896, the Müller & Schmidt partnership began. That year Pfeilringwerk registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce and also introduced their "PFEILRING" trademark of: the ring with the dynamic five arrows. In August 1900, construction of their factory began on Charlottenstrasse 5. By 1910, Pfeilringwerk had an introduced an in-house drop forge. 1920 records indicate the company was manufacturing: cutlery, razors, manicure articles, scissors, shears, promotional knives and cutlery. The partners acquired the Ernst Knipp Lederwarenfabrik company enabling them to make leather goods and cases for their manicure sets etc. In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk, Pfeilringwerk took out two full pages advertising their 25-year anniversary, spoke about their history and marketed: cigar cutters, advertising gifts, pocket knives, and manicure sets in leather pouches etc. Come 1925, Pfeilringwerk had showrooms in: Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, Frankfurt am Main and Wien. Carl Müller died in 1932 and Paul Schmidt took over the company's management. Come the Third Reich, early era SA daggers were made, Fisher estimates 7,000. In 1935, Pfeilringwerk did not receive a RZM license to continue manufacturing NSDAP daggers. In 1956, Schmidt's son Wolfgang Schmidt joined the management board. In 1960, Müller's grandson Dr. Eberhard Wendel also joined the board. Both worked tirelessly to build new collections and the Pfeilringwerk brand. The "Muller & Schmidt Pfeilringwerk GmbH & Co KG" company continues their successful operation making high-quality manicure sets, nail scissors, tweezers, strong pliers and fine files etc.
