C. Bertram Reinhard & Sohn, Solingen | RZM M7/79


The C. Bertram, Reinhard Sohn, Fabrik feinster Stahlwaren, company began in 1864. The Hen and Rooster trademark was registered in 1897. The firm then registered in Solingen on July, 15, 1899. In 1900, the company was owned by the son Reinhard Bertram and located on Viktoria-strasse 171 in Solingen-Wald. During the Imperial era, Bertram registered its "TRESOR" (1914) trademark. Come the 1920's Bertram specialized in pocket knives, which proved to be a success into the 60's, which were largely exported to USA. In the 1922 Solingen und sein Industriebezirk advertisement above, Bertram advertises: pocket knives, pen knives, razor blades, scissors and nail clippers. Come the Third Reich era, the company manufactured some early era SS daggers (c.1934). In 1939, the company was located on Beethovenstrasse 103, while owned by Paul and Ernst Bertram. The company dissolved on January 19, 1977, and the distinctive trademark was acquired by Robert Klaas.
