The Bulldog emblem traces its beginnings back to the Solingen, Gebr. Halbach company who registered the trademark in 1896. In 1900, two subsequent trademarks were registered: a "BULLDOG" and a bulldog's head. During the Third Reich era, Halbach manufactured early era SA daggers. In 1939, the company was owned by Franz Beien, while located in Solingen on Lützow-Strasse 74. The W. Beien & Co. (Nederlansche Messenfabriek W. Beien & Co. N.V.), Dutch company acquired the Bulldog trademark and likely the Solingen business as well.
