Carl Linder, Solingen Merscheid

The Carl Linder Messerfabrik company began in 1870 when Carl Wilhelm Linder opened a workshop in Bech, now a part of Solingen. The business was passed to the eldest son of the next generation Carl Linder (1869-1936). He moved the company to Weyerstraße 63 in 1903 and it remained there until 1911. C. Linder registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on October 10, 1908. Linder pocket and hunting knives became quite the success and it outgrew its current shop. The company moved to Hauptstraße 45 in 1911 to 1918 and then again to Erholungstraße 5-7 from 1918 to 1937. During the Third Reich era, HJ knives as well as SA/NSKK daggers were being manufactured. Carl Linder died in 1936 and on May 24, 1937, his widow sold the stock, intellectual property and goodwill of the firm to the Solingen knife maker Paul Rosenkaimer. The company was then re-named to "Carl Linder Nachfolger" (successor). Rosenkaimer stopped the production of paramilitary daggers to avoid competing with "Paul Seilheimer" (RZM M7/38), who was his father-in-law. The factory was destroyed in a bombing raid on December 31, 1944. It was re-built in 1947 and was soon outgrown in 1953. A new premise was built opposite to the previous on Erholungstraße 10 in 1957. The company also sold a line of "Rehwappen" knives. Some are scout knives that are very similar to HJ knives. Linder remains in business to this day manufacturing and selling all sorts of: knives, tools, scissors, razors, swords and much more.
