Gebrüder Christians, Christianswerk, Solingen | RZM M7/1
The Gebrüder Christians, Christianswerk Stahlwarenfabrik company was founded in 1824 by Karl Wilhelm Christians and Johann Abraham. Christians and Abraham employed 26 men, who worked as: blacksmiths, hand forgers, farmers and general laborers. The company began by specializing in manufacturing boots. In 1856, Wilhelm's sons Reinhard and Carl Christians joined the company. In 1860, the brothers acquired a large plot of land on Kaiserstraße 288 in Solingen. It included three buildings, which served as an office, warehouse and factory by 1862. On August 16, 1875, Christianswerk registered at the Royal Commercial Court in Elberfeld. The company entered into the Solingen commercial register on August 1, 1879. Reinhard Christians was credited with the fork trademark. In 1900, the business was owned by Wilhelm Hermann and Ernst Christians. By 1910, Christianswerk was making: razors, tools, scissors, blades, knives, swords and daggers. In 1924, Christianswerk celebrated their 100-year anniversary with a publication in their sales catalogue stating: "World-renowned, The quality brand." Sole ownership transferred to Eugen Christians in 1930, who held the company until 1939. Christianswerk relocated to Hauptstraße in 1932 then to Adolf-Hitler Platz 18/19 in 1939. In 1935 Christianswerk received its RZM M7/1 license. Christianswerk manufactured many daggers, primarily for the NSDAP, and most prominently SA daggers. The vast majority of Christianswerk's products were dated 38 (1938), including: SS, SA/NSKK daggers and HJ knives. The business was successful and Christianswerk sold goods around the world after the turn of the century. Until 1975, the company was run by three successive generations of brothers. Christianswerk remains in business to this day.
