The Friedrich August Schmitz Stahlwarenfabrik company began in 1878. It registered in Solingen on July 26, 1910. In 1920, the company was owned by Karl Schmitz. It focused on the sale of cutlery and tools. The 1922 full page advertisement above illustrates their specialty in fine table and dessert cutlery. In 1932, the company was located on Vereinsstraße 10. During the Third Reich era, a small number of HJ knives and SA daggers were manufactured. In 1939, the business was owned by Friedrich Schmitz. It was then manufacturing fine cutlery and steel ware "in the very best gift packaging."
