The Karl Tiegel, Tiegelwerk Stahlwarenfabrik company was founded in 1877. Tiegelwerk produced: butcher, kitchen and professional knives. An advertisement in Messer und Schere linked the Tiegelwerk firm with the "J. A. Schmidt & Söhne" company, who also worked in Riemberg and produced SA daggers. In 1938, the company was located in Riemberg (now part of Poland Wroclaw Roscislawice) in Schlesien Bezik Breslau on Leiper Straße and held a depot in Solingen-Gräfrath. Though rare, Tiegelwerk did make: HJ knives, some Early era SA daggers and 1938-1940 era SA/NSKK daggers. SS daggers with the RZM M7/81 (Karl Tiegel) code and SS contract code 1241/39 SS (Mack & Eicklenberg) have been associated with both firms, however it is likely the former. Tiegelwerk lost its RZM license on November 11, 1941. It is assumed that trading ceased when the Russians overran eastern Germany in 1945, yet it may have continued working into the early part of the 1950s.
