The Carl Wüsthof, Gladiatorwerk Stahlwarenfabrik company began in 1895. It registered in Solingen on August 8, 1930. Early on the company was manufacturing: pocket knives, scissors, razor blades and cutlery of all kinds. The "GLADIATOR" trademark was registered on July 7, 1906. Carl, Paul and Otto Wüsthof were all owners in 1914. The man pole-vaulting a ditch trademark was registered in 1919. Paul and Otto Wüsthof were owners throughout the 1920s and 30s. During the Third Reich era, Gladiatorwerk was manufacturing: SA/NSKK, Army and Luftwaffe daggers along with HJ knives and HJ Honor knives. Carl Wüsthof received its RZM license on January 14, 1939. The company remains in business to this day making: cook, butcher and professional knives and flatware, pocket and sporting knives, scissors and clippers. The company has remained at the Felder Straße 43-45 location since 1935
