The Eduard Wüsthof, Dreizackwerk Stahlwarenfabrik company traces its beginnings back to 1814 with Johann Abraham Wüsthof (1779-1839), Eduard Wüsthof's (1817-1876) father. Eduard Wüsthof took over the family business in 1839. The company registered in Solingen on December 22, 1884. Many fine steel ware products were manufactured including: pocket knives, straight razors, razor blades, scissors, shears, and table, dessert, carving and fruit knives. Eduard's sons Robert (1858-1914) and Eduard (1856-1936) ran the family business in the fourth generation. Success began in New York with United States relations from 1881. The Trident trademark was registered on May 9, 1895. In 1914, Robert Wüsthof's son Robert (1887-1967) took over the management of the company.A few high-quality combat knives were made during the First World War. Come the Third Reich era, many HJ knives and SA/NSKK daggers were made. Wüsthof produced SS daggers in 1938 under the contract code RZM 1196/38 SS. Many quality RAD subordinate and leader daggers were also made. The company was located on Düsseldorfer Straße 49 in 1932, which was renamed to Kronprinzen Straße in 1939 and the company still resides there. Restructuring of the outdated manual production began in the 1970s and automated production lines started being built. In 1986 the first robot was installed. In 2013, the business was owned and managed by Harald Wüsthof, the sixth generation of the founding family. Wüsthof has won many awards from 2008 for their specialization in "household goods." Wüsthof is still considered a leader in its industry with products being sold worldwide in over 80 countries.
