The Gottlieb Hammesfahr & Co. AG Stahlwarenfabrik company began in 1804, though claims a direct line back to 1684. It registered with the Solingen chamber of commerce on October 12, 1875. Hammesfahr was one of the largest and longest established cutlery manufacturers in Solingen. The business specialized in drop forging, and made knives and tools. The well associated trademark of a cross on a pyramid was registered in 1898. During the Imperial era, Hammesfahr manufactured: combat knives and bayonets (S. 98/05 & S 84/98). In 1922, Hammesfahr took out two full pages in Solingen und sein Industriebezirk to advertise the inside of their impressive warehouse. From 1924- 28, Hammesfahr marketed: "razors, scissors, pocket knives, forks, spoons and knives of all kinds for household, kitchen and handicrafts." In 1934, Hammesfahr was listed in Die Klinge as a manufacturer of HJ and DJ knives. In 1935, when the RZM Handbuch was published Hammesfahr did not receive an RZM license. During the Third Reich era, Hammesfahr manufactured: many quality SS daggers, HJ knives, along with SA/NSKK daggers and RAD Hewers among other edged weapons. The company was situated on Focher Straße 60 in 1938. By July of that year Hammesfhar had obtained its RZM M7/67 license. In 1939, Ernst Gottlieb Hammesfahr was listed as the owner of the company. Their 1942 product records include: cutlery, scissors, pocket knives and razors. In 1949, Hammesfahr was also selling: pocket knives, scissors and manicure items. Come August 1971, Hammesfahr was acquired by "Wilkens Bremer Silberwaren AG" firm and the original factory building was demolished.
